I'm Troy and I am an older guy (52) who has always had a passion for tech but got distracted from it for the past 25 years or so working in professional psychology. I've loved the work in psych but it has become increasingly 'soft' and non-technical recently and I am finding myself longing for experiences in electronic/tech circles as an 'antidote' to that. I am also in recovery for alcohol as my 'drug of choice' and have experienced the 'recovery' industry in mental health via first-hand experience and let me just say that while there are a number of very wonderful people in recovery (and professionals), there is a lot that is 'messed up' and often downright harmful in their approaches. I'm really interested in throwing myself into emerging technologies (machine learning, AI) and how they can be leveraged to assist people in recovery from addiction and creating logical and truly helpful tools (like social networking applications for peer support) for those who want to support one another in staying sober and living great lives. Looking forward to learning and connecting to others with an interest in developing technical skills here at Silicon Dojo!
I have worked with computers since the age of 6 dating back to dos. I have dabbled in VB, HTML, CSS, C+, Java, and now i have been learning python. I have never mastered any language. I have been working in IT as helpdesk for the last 4 years and want to move up. I have ADHD which makes it hard to study a skill set for long periods of time but to move up, Which im looking at either cloud or programming, I need to learn python to do that. Knowing the basics of all the languages i have touched i have come to feel like im in a loop and need to really learn more so i can be an advanced python programmer. I wouldnt mind making some android apps which now they use Kotlin with Java so thats another language i will have to learn but that will come later.
I look forward to hearing from everyone and learning all that i can so i can really earn what im worth in the IT industry and hopefully help others as we make this Journey together.
Hello Lovely World and The Special Computer Geeks & Nerds,
I am Jennifer Anya. I have had a varied path. I have done programing, networking, QA, Project Managment -but not titled PM-, built computers, database manager. Then, I even jumped ship by becoming an RN and am trying to climb back on board.
Joined the site because I wanted to explore a Wix site after hearing you gush about it. I'm considering moving hosts and I'm pleasantly surprised myself!
Also, this is the type of fever dream I can get behind. Forward and forward the ball goes. Will it stop? Who knows.
In all seriousness, I'm a 9-5 tech professional who had a rocky start education-wise. The mentors I had growing up are the reason I'm gainfully employed and I always look for ways to pay it forward.
In one of your blobs you mentioned moving to a sort of "anti-tech" city. I recently moved to such a city in the midwest and it got me thinking about what you said.
Happy to see this gaining traction and I hope to see more, even if it means less time devoted to RAWRs.
I learnt Python from Dr. Chuck py4e.com and now I am working my way with Eli's videos, focussing on OpenAI at the moment. I want to understand what is going on with this tool, and how I can use it for work and personal lives. I want to improve my Python skill so working a prototype involving the language and OpenAI. I am leveraging a lot on Eli's videos on OpenAI, which I found are very useful and above all, they are clear to me. Hopefully, I can share the prototype to whoever is interested. Cheers.
Thanks for sharing the info. Appreciate it! I will bear that in mind for the future. I am trying to finish this mini project and then maybe I go over C course cc4e.com. I want to understand low level language but C looks hard to me at the moment.
Howdy, I'll go by Rifts.I'm work in IT, Technical Services, for a larger fortune company.I've dabbled a bit in everything. Mainly learning Python with Flask at the moment with the goal to build smaller sites for impact oriented organizations. I enjoy learning about a bit of cybersecurity and broader IT ideas.
I started learning programming in 2014 with HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and PHP, and I worked with CodeIgniter and WordPress. Then, in 2017, I transitioned to Python and Django. I live in Dnipro, Ukraine. Since the summer, I've been looking for a job, which has turned out to be a challenging task here.
Currently, I'm learning FastAPI, asyncio, and DevOps.
Hello, I am PatrickBeen trying to learn to programming for a while or a long while. I keep jumping from JS TS Python GO RUST Ruby but I have not gotten good at any of them but I keep jumping back between them week to week so that helps to explain it. I look forward to seeing others gain skills here and where I might fit in
As a serial language hopper, I've found that the more time I spend with an individual language the more I understand the deeper concepts of that given language. I've found it easier to understand other languages when I spend time with an individual one.
It can also help to have a bigger project that you're motivated to work on and really go deep on a given language with.
I totally understand what you are saying.. my only big project is to get someone to hire me to code.... and looking at Job Descriptions it looks like you need to know everything. While I know that is not possible I cannot stop hopping in my studies each week ... but this week I can now do FizzBuzz in rust
